Opened in 1900 and extensively updated in the 1980s and again in 2017 at a cost of £16.6m, the Perth Theatre hosts a wide range of shows and events, including art, comedy, classical music, dance, drama, film and family events. Located in the heart of Perth, and a short stroll down Mill Street from our Perth City Centre hotel, the 450-capacity two-level theatre has been restored to its Edwardian peak with a proscenium arch and fly tower.
Big names like Alec Guinness and local hero Ewan McGregor got their start on this stage, while recent guests have included Jason Manford, Jane McDonald, UB40 and The Proclaimers.
Located next to Perth Theatre, the Concert Hall was opened in 2005 and is a 1,600-capacity venue that hosts regular classical music concerts, as well as opera, ballet, musicals and regular pop, rock and folk gigs. The modern and hi-tech building has a fully flexible concert hall with floor lifts and excellent electro-acoustics, making it one of the best concert halls in Scotland
A professional football club founded in Perth in 1885, St. Johnstone are currently one of the 12 Scottish Premier League teams and won their first piece of silverware – the Scottish Cup – in 2014. The team have won the first division title seven times, giving them a reputation as a yo-yo team who regularly get promoted and relegated.
Despite that, the team have a strong following and have enjoyed a period of prosperity in the last decade, with home games played at the 10,600-capacity McDiarmid Park stadium. The first purpose-built all-seater stadium in the UK, it’s located several miles to the west of the city centre on the outskirts of Perth and has a bar open on match days, as well as several counters selling pies, snacks and hot drinks.
Located near Scone Palace, Perth Racecourse is the most northern track in the UK and also one of the oldest, dating as far back as 1613. The current site opened in 1908 and has a steeplechase course (with eight fences and a water jump) and a hurdle course.
The season runs from April to September, with a mix of daytime, evening and night time races, while there are seven bars, restaurants and cafés where you can sit back and enjoy the action with a glass of something fizzy. Around five minutes by car from our Perth City Centre hotel, there are over 2,000 car park spaces for race days or make sure to book ahead if you want to take a taxi.
