Thirsk Races
With a history of horse racing going back to 1740, Thirsk Racecourse is one of the most historic tracks in the UK and just a few miles from our Thirsk Hotel along the A61. The mile-long track holds more than 15 races and meetings each year with the season running from April until September. As well as regular weekend races, including the famous Irish Day and the Summer Cup events, the floodlit track also hosts several evening meets through the season. There are plenty of prime viewing spots along the track, including several restaurants and their new Champagne bar.

Ritz Cinema
Thirsk’s heritage is alive and well at the Ritz Cinema, one of the oldest still-active screens in the country dating back to 1912. The 200-capacity cinema in the heart of Thirsk next to the town hall is as old-fashioned as they come but thanks to its team of volunteers, has upgraded its sound system and screen in recent years. The only cinema for miles, the Ritz has a small concession for drinks, snacks and sweets in the main foyer and near-daily screenings and weekend matinees.
Thirsk Leisure Centre
Located a few streets back from the town hall, Thirsk Leisure Centre is the place to get your endorphin rush. The leisure centre is open daily with access to a 25-metre pool, floodlit astroturf football and hockey pitches, a gym, fitness classes and a sauna, with pay-as-you-go tickets available for most of the activities.
