Getting around Telford
Airport transfers
If you’re coming to Telford by air, your nearest airport is Birmingham Airport. Around 50 minutes away whether you’re travelling by train or driving, Birmingham is the major air travel hub of the Midlands and the seventh busiest in the UK, thanks to its ease of access and variety of airlines making a base there.
Located in the suburb of Solihull, Birmingham Airport sends over 11 million passengers on their way, both within the UK and internationally, from quick ferries to Europe with budget airlines like Jet2, Flybe and Ryanair to long-haul destinations in the Middle East, India and the Caribbean with Thomas Cook and TUI Airways.
Birmingham Airport has seven of the biggest car hire firms available via desks in the arrivals lounge. These include Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt. The teams will be able to direct you to their car collection points, which are just a five-minute walk away from the terminal in Car Park 4. Additionally, we offer a selection of hotels near Birmingham Airport if you don’t want to do all your travelling in one day.
Only an extra 30 minutes away by car, Manchester Airport is also a handy option for air passengers heading to Telford. You’ll find all the big name airlines outside the three terminals. The airport is the busiest in the UK outside London and is a world leader for the number of total destinations served at 199 overall. We also have a great selection of hotels near Manchester Airport if you want to rest up before travelling on to Telford.

With its largely flat terrain, cycling is an ideal way to get around the town and thanks to a council-led cycling initiative, the Telford Bike Hub, you don’t need your own set of wheels to get involved. Reopening in the spring, the Bike Hub can be found in the Town Park Visitor Centre and offers a wide range of bikes to hire to get you on your way, including city and mountain bikes, tandems for the ultimate test of your relationship, hybrid bikes if you need a bit more pedal power, children’s bikes and trailers and child seats if you’ve got a little one to accommodate.
Adult bike hire costs just a few pounds for an hour and includes a helmet, pump, lock and a map. You’ll just need proof of address, and you can pay by cash or card.
