Indoor activities in Taunton

You’re only a five-minute drive from an afternoon’s delight of bowling if you’re staying at our Taunton East hotel. That’s because Hollywood Bowl is less than a mile away. It’s an indoor extravaganza of activities, with 22 state-of-the-art bowling lanes, pool tables, air hockey, arcade games, and free Wi-Fi.

It’s all enough to build up quite an appetite, but the good news is that you can order food straight to your lane. The menu is the kind of thing you’d expect from a bowling alley – hot dogs, burgers and the like, but at least it’s cheap and cheerful if you want a snack between strikes.

If you want to take it up a notch, Hollywood Bowl also has a handful of VIP lanes where, for marginally more, you can enjoy table service while you bowl behind VIP ropes and red velvet curtains. There are special storage areas for your belongings, and every lane is dedicated to a different Hollywood star, from Marilyn Monroe to Han Solo.

Right next to the Hollywood Bowl and McDonald's, you’ll find the Odeon Cinema. It’s Taunton’s go-to location if you want to catch a blockbuster – and with eight screens in total, there tends to be a solid selection of movies on whenever you go. If you’re happy shelling out a few more shillings, then you can opt for Odeon’s ‘Premier Seats’ – lie back in the luscious leather reclining chairs, play with the swivelly tables – and if you’re going with a partner, you can slide up the armrests to convert your two seats into a couple’s couch.

The Garden Room operates out of owner Louise’s lovely Victorian family home. Along with her team of highly experienced therapists, she offers a super-friendly, personalised service using the highest-quality products. Compared to the hustle and bustle you can experience in high street salons, The Garden Room is relaxation personified. Louise sources organic and vegan-friendly skincare and health products, so you know you’re not going to be exposed to any of those nasty chemicals. If that all sounds like your cup of tea, then you’ll have to book an appointment. Plus, you may get to meet Lola, The Garden Room’s resident rescue dog.

Buff Spa are the recent winners of the Somerset Tourism Awards for Spa & Wellbeing 2017. You can find them in the heart of the town, just a five-minute drive from our Taunton Central North hotel. Spread over three floors, including the hair salon and pedicure area, they have all the facilities to pamper you from head to toe. If it’s peace and quiet that you’re looking for then you simply have to try the floatation tank. The top floor hosts their main relaxation and deck area, home of their hot tub.
