The coastal location can be the best thing about Swansea, but it can also mean the Atlantic weather blows in quickly bringing wind and rain. When that does hit, you’ll be pleased to hear there’s still plenty to do indoors in the area.
Indoor activities in Swansea
Cinemas
Home to not one, not two but four cinemas, film fans will be able to find everything from big-name blockbusters to art house films in Swansea.
If you’re after a multiplex fix, head to the Vue or Odeon Cinema complexes. The York Street Vue complex is home to 12 screens and is just a minute’s walk from our Swansea City Centre hotel. Screening all the latest blockbusters and new Hollywood arrivals, all screens come with Digital Dolby 6.1 surround sound and offer the usual array of hot dogs, sweets and bottomless drinks.
The Odeon complex is half a mile from our City Centre hotel and is a 10-screen complex with several 3D screens and – crucially – a Ben & Jerry’s stand for all your sweet-tooth cravings. Part of the Parc Tawe Retail Park alongside tenpin bowling, there are plenty of parking spaces available.
For something a little more alternative, head to the Taliesin Cinema. Part of the university complex, the 300-seat theatre is one of the largest in the city and screens left-field films from across the world, as well as more alternative Hollywood releases. There’s also an on-site licensed café and bar serving up sandwiches, snacks and drinks.
Rounding out the selection is another cool alternative located near Wind Street, Cinema & Co. With an oversized living room feel, you sprawl on handmade sofas while watching a mix of new releases and cult classics on a large projector screen powered by an impressive PA system. The licensed bar has a good range of hot drinks, beers, wines and cocktails, while they also run toddler film sessions, live music and even Xbox tournaments.
Skidz Karting
Swansea’s only indoor karting track, Skidz Karting is made up of two different tracks. They also boast a large games room equipped with a pool table and air hockey table, as well as several driving simulators. Karts are available for children aged four and up, with 25-minute sessions available via their arrive and drive program, or longer sessions involving several races if you pre-book. The track is around four miles north of our Swansea Waterfront hotel.
Limitless Trampoline Park
Flip, bounce and jump your way around this trampoline park offering everything from toddler sessions to loud DJ-led parties. Filled with wall-to-wall trampolines, foam pits and dodgeball courts, Limitless Trampoline Park in Port Tennant is an excellent way to burn off some excess energy and get fit, and is just a mile from our Waterfront hotel.
Dynamic Rock Adventures
A non-profit organisation, Dynamic Rock Adventures is an indoor climbing wall that caters to beginners and cliff-hangers alike. They offer a range of lessons and courses, as well as the chance to just rock up and climb, with several routes open including bouldering walls and low-level climbing caves. Located to the north of the city centre in Clydach, Dynamic Rock Adventures is less than three miles from our Swansea North hotel.
LC Swansea
Wales’ biggest indoor waterpark, a trip to LC Swansea features everything from a surf machine and boardrider to a 30-feet climbing wall and a towering four-storey soft play centre. Based in the refurbished Swansea Marina, the waterpark is a riot of slides and waves, including the Masterblaster, a wave pool, Volcano Bay and the lazy river. It’s also home to one of the largest gyms in the region, offering over 130 classes and 180 Technogym stations.
Escape Rooms
There are two escape rooms in Swansea. Breakout was actually the first escape room in Wales and offers two hour-long challenges in the heart of the city centre. The Escape Game meanwhile offers three different challenges and is up near the Liberty Stadium, around 1.5 miles from the city centre.
