On the banks of the River Tay, the city is packed full of history and plenty of entertainment – take in Scone Palace and the Black Watch Museum by day and then head to the state-of-the-art Perth Concert Hall for a show in the evening. You can head out to the hills and bag yourself a Munro (a Scottish mountain higher than 3,000 feet), take a lazy walk around Perth’s bustling streets, cafés, bars and restaurants, get your history and culture fix at Stanley Mills, have a day out watching Premier League football, bet on the horses at the UK’s most northern racetrack or delve deeper into the region’s amazing whisky heritage with a distillery tour. Shopping
The main shopping mall for miles, the St. John’s Shopping Centre boasts over 30 high street classics, including Primark, H&M, JD Sports and River Island. Located in the heart of Perth and a five-minute walk from our Perth City Centre hotel, you’ll also find a dedicated book, gift and perfume shops, as well as several cafés.
Running the length of Perth, the High Street is packed full of history as well as shops old and new, including handmade jewellery (Silver Linings), old-fashioned toy shops (Fun Junction) and an excellent café (Blend Coffee Shop). Head to George Street for more alternative shops including craft and art shops (The Peacock & The Tortoise), delicious food delis (Provender Brown Delicatessen) and vintage gifts (Whispers of the Past).
Getting Around
Perth is well served by international airports. Edinburgh Airport is around 40 miles by car and 75 minutes by train, including one change. You can make your journey even easier by staying the night before you travel at one of our hotels near Edinburgh airport.
Glasgow Airport is 70 miles away, taking roughly 75 minutes by car. There are no direct trains (you’ll need to change three times) and going by bus will take around three hours.
The seven-platform Perth Train Station is a main travel hub with regular links to Dundee, London, Aberdeen and Gleneagles, where it connects to the Caledonian Sleeper. It’s located on the south-west edge of the city centre, a 10-minute walk from our hotel. The Perth Bus Station is a short walk away on Leonard Street with regular National Express services to Stirling, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and more.
