If you’re looking for high-street favourites, the best shopping in the area can be found at The Lanes Shopping Centre in Carlisle, near our Carlisle M6 Jct42 and Carlisle Central hotels. That said, what Penrith lacks in high-street retailers, it certainly makes up for in independents.

Shopping Centres
A former Victorian market turned modern covered shopping centre, Devonshire Arcade is Penrith’s leading shopping destination. There are over 20 independent retailers housed in the arcade, ranging from gifts and art to clothing and shoe shops. It’s also home to a butcher, a fishmonger and some of the best places to eat in Penrith.
Devonshire Arcade is open from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 8am and 5.30pm and has a small number of parking spaces available on Devonshire Street.
A relatively new addition to the town centre, Penrith New Squares is a town centre development consisting of a Sainsbury’s supermarket, a multistorey car park, a series of shops and our Penrith hotel. Some of the leading retailers in the development include Boots, WH Smith and Sports Direct.

Markets
Penrith is a historic market town, and every third Tuesday of the month from March to December that tradition is honoured with the Penrith Farmers’ Market. Shoppers flock to the monthly market to browse from the stalls of local produce. From seasonal foods to hand-made crafts, there’s plenty of choice and a brilliant atmosphere amongst the local stallholders. The market runs from 9.30am until 2.30pm.
