Luton Town F.C.

Less than a mile from the town centre and a short drive from our nearby Dunstable/Luton hotel, Luton Town F.C. compete in The Championship, the second tier of English football. Founded in 1885 and nicknamed The Hatters in a nod to the town’s hat-making past, the team play their home games at the 10,300-capacity Kenilworth Ground which has been their home since 1905.

The team enjoyed their longest period of success in the 80s and early 90s when they were part of the First Division, winning the League Cup in 1988. That success was followed by a long spell out of the top leagues and some financial problems, but they rebounded into the Football League in 2014, and have started to climb the English football ladder once again.

Away fans have to take one of the most interesting journeys in the UK to get into the ground – the Oak Road Stand is built into the back of terraced housing with the ticket office in the middle of a house: you effectively have to walk through a living room and a garden to get to your seat! There are a range of food and drink options in the ground including pasties, burgers and hot dogs while nearby pubs include The White House on the edge of Luton’s town centre.
