Be it top-quality rugby, football, horse racing or sell-out gigs, Leicester’s stadiums have it all.
Opened in 2002 and with a capacity of 32,312, Leicester City’s King Power Stadium is the 20th-largest football ground in England and one of the most modern. As well as hosting Leicester’s home games – including their debut foray into the Champions League in the 2016/17 season – the stadium has hosted international rugby and football matches, as well as boxing events.

Matchday parking is available via the club’s Filbert Street car park or you can try the Freemen’s Common Business Park if that’s full. The ground is a mile from the train station, making it a 15-minute walk or five-minute taxi, and there are three park and ride schemes in the city as well. Stadium tours are available, allowing you to see inside the changing rooms, trophy room and dugout.
Although best known for its 30 racing events each year, Leicester Racecourse in Oadby is a multi-purpose venue hosting everything from giant outdoor cinema screenings to reggae concerts, family fun days, BBQs and vintage carnivals. With six food and drink outlets on-site, ranging from quick and easy snack bars to all-day carvery choices, and various hospitality options, you won’t go hungry or thirsty while laying a bet on the gee-gees.
The site was expanded in 2014 to include The Kube; a purpose-built events space that can hold up to 1,000 people for theatre-style events or beyond for concerts and exhibitions. On-site parking is free, except for Ladies’ Day and for a charge, you can park your car next to the track and watch the events from there as part of their park & view scheme. Located to the north-east of the city centre, Leicester Racecourse is 1.5 miles from our Leicester South (Oadby) hotel.
As befits the most successful rugby union team in recent history, Leicester Tigers play their home matches at Welford Road Stadium; the largest purpose-built rugby club in the UK. The on-site pub, The Final Whistle, is open three hours before kick-off and there is a host of fast food stands outside the ground, including Domino’s pizza and The Pie Factory, which all open 90 minutes before kick-off.
The stadium is regularly hired out for conferences and exhibitions and can hold up to 1,000 guests, with on-site parking and good train and car links. Match day parking is available at the nearby King Power Stadium or the LRI Multi Storey, with pre-booking available from the Leicester Tigers website. If you’re coming from further afield, the park and ride is a good option and runs every 15 minutes from the Enderby stop. The stadium is 15 minutes from the London Road train station and the same distance from our Leicester City Centre hotel.
London Road Railway Station is a 15-minute walk from the stadium. On arrival, turn right out of the station, cross the road, turn left onto Waterloo Way, continue to the top of the hill onto Tigers Way and Welford Road is directly ahead.
