Theatre

Freiburg City Theatre
The Stadttheater is the largest theatre in Breisgau with four separate venues: the Big House, the Small House, the Chamber Stage and the Work Room. There’s a great range of programmes from dramatics to youth theatre, dance, musical theatre and concerts. There’s also fascinating readings and lecture evenings in the Winterer Foyer.

The Wallgraben Theater
The Wallgraben Theatre was founded by students in a former wine and air-raid shelter in Wallstrasse in 1953 and moved to the basement of the New Town Hall in the late 1960s. The actor Heinz Meier, known for his appearances in Loriot sketches, headed the theatre until 2003. Under his direction, the Wallgraben Theatre was the first theatre in 1975 to bring Loriot sketches onto the stage. Today the Wallgraben Theatre is renowned for its cultural events and regularly hosts shows for hundreds of avid theatregoers.
