There’s no shortage of great places to grab a drink during your stay in Elgin. You can either make your way next door from our hotel to the popular Linkwood Lodge or venture into town and tick off the brilliant craft beer emporium, some of our favourite cocktail bars, and end up in Joanna’s, the legendary nightclub that’s served Elgin for generations.
Nightlife in Elgin
Pubs
The Duffus Inn on Hopeman Road is an excellent pub a little ways north of the town centre, towards the coast. The staff are friendly, and the food is fantastic. Call in for an afternoon’s drink or an evening’s meal, and you won’t be disappointed.
In Elgin Town Centre, The Granary on Thunderton Place is a popular Belhaven Pub spread across two floors, which shows live sports and enjoys a lively atmosphere on the weekend. The food is fair, and the drinks are reasonably priced.
If you’re after a convenient pub near our Elgin hotel, they don’t get much closer than the Linkwood Lodge next door. It’s clean and comfortable, service is quick and the prices are cheap. What more could you ask for?
Elgin’s Wetherspoons pub goes by the moniker of The Muckle Cross. Predictably, you’ll find it on High Street. You know what to expect from a Wetherspoons pub; the drinks selection is wide and wonderfully inexpensive, the atmosphere’s larger than life and the pretty tasty pub grub is put in front of you impossibly quick.

Bars
The Drouthy Cobbler is a popular cafe bar on the High Street with a world-class single malt whisky selection and some seriously tasty food. The staff are excellent, especially for tipple recommendations, while the exposed stone walls and wooden furniture add heaps of character to this excellent bar.
Mezzo Bar & Eaterie on Mayne Road is a stylish choice for cocktails and nibbles. The beautifully decorated bar is housed in the glass extension of the building. The eatery is inside and serves impressively plated food. The haggis bites are delicious.
Make your way to Dicey’s Bar on the High Street, which gets absolutely heaving on the weekend. Thursday’s open-mic nights are fun, and there’s weekly karaoke, too. Local bands are regularly booked to entertain punters, and they show the sports, as well.
Against the Grain doesn’t describe itself as a bar, but a beer emporium. You’ll find it on Batchen Street selling a – frankly – absurd number of bottled beers, as well as six options on tap. It’s not hard to find; just look for the bright yellow facade.
Clubs
There is only one club worth telling you about in Elgin, and it’s an absolute institution. We honestly couldn’t tell you how long Joanna’s Nightclub has been open for. It’s the kind of place that’s been passed from generation to generation, and we can’t imagine the decor has changed much over the years, either. There’s four bars, decent DJs and a whopper of a dance floor that’s perfect for throwing down some shapes to some classic bangers.
