A national treasure, you’ll know the Seven Sisters Country Park even if you’ve never been there before. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the 280 hectares of chalk cliffs has been featured on dozens of high profile films and TV shows, including Robin Hood, Atonement, Quadrophenia and more.

Thanks to miles of coastline and the stunning chalk cliff backdrop, the park is the perfect place for exploring, including walking, birdwatching, cycling and canoeing, but please be extra vigilant near the edge of the cliffs. If you’d prefer to take in the amazing panorama with a cuppa in hand, head for the Saltmarsh café at the main visitor centre, where you’ll also find out more on the region’s geology and history.
The Seven Sisters themselves are a series of chalk hills, which are allowed to erode naturally giving them a clean white appearance. The fabled ‘White Cliffs of Dover’ meanwhile are increasingly protected by vegetation to help bind the cliffs together, giving them a greener, darker tinge.
If you want to explore the beaches on your own, try the Seaford to Eastbourne Walk from Cuckmere Haven to Beachy Head. There’s a footpath leading the way, and Birling Gap – with its café and toilets – is handily located halfway along. The walk can take all day, especially if you climb the Seven Sisters, but it’s easy to break it up into segments. Be warned as well that the paths are on the rougher end of rough, so strong walking shoes are advised, and less-rugged buggies might struggle.
Our closest property is our Town Centre hotel, which is around 15 minutes away by car. There are several paid car parks along Beachy Head Road, but be prepared to queue, especially on peak summer weekends, as it can get very busy.
