Largely made up of shingle sand, the beaches include amazing windsurfing spots, fishing at Harbour Reach and, at low tide, some awesome rock pools and miles of flat sand, which is just perfect for sandcastles, summer games and exploring. The main resort beach stretches from the Pier to Wish Tower and includes showers and toilets, beach huts, food and drink outlets, first aid cover and a lifeguard and safe swimming zone. You’ll also find plenty of shops nearby if you need to pick up a bucket and spade, suntan lotion or an ice cream. And head onto Grand Parade to explore the Victorian street and its impressive 19th-century buildings housing bars, cafés and restaurants.

Marine Parade beach has impressive views towards the Sovereign Marina and is a dog friendly beach as long as they’re kept under control or on a leash. If you want to get away from the crowds, try Birling Gap Beach, a mile-long stretch of beach round towards the Seven Sisters Country Park, while Holywell Retreat at the foot of the South Downs is a great place for an adventure, with beach huts, chalets, rock pools and a charming café.

With stunning coastal views, plenty of amenities and several secluded areas, a day at the beach is one of the best ways to spend your time in Eastbourne, with a guaranteed hot chocolate or ice cream nearby depending on the weather.
