Dundee Repertory Theatre

The most experimental of the bunch, Dundee Rep Theatre is leading arts education in the city and is the most awarded theatre in Scotland. A purpose-built space, you’ll find all kinds of performing arts on show here. From plays and dance to music and comedy, no matter what your theatrical tastes, you’ll find something that tickles your fancy.

Dundee Rep has a permanent acting ensemble – something that is truly rare in Scottish theatre. Combined with the dance company that shares the space, this creates a unique dynamic that allows Dundee Rep to be truly experimental with their productions. Although the ensemble cast put on six productions a year – many of which have won awards –  Dundee Rep also welcomes international theatre groups to take to the stage across its annual calendar.

Located in Tay Square, Dundee Rep is at the heart of the city’s cultural quarter. Although it’s surrounded by fantastic bars and eateries, you can also pick up a bite to eat from the Rep Restaurant, where top-class chefs serve a mixture of classic and contemporary cooking and wonderfully naughty desserts.

Whitehall Theatre

Originally a small-scale theatre for films and amateur productions, Whitehall Theatre is now a family-friendly venue that seats 710 people. Famous for its musical extravaganzas and pantomimes, a lot of the productions here are aimed at children, so it’s a great place to go if you’re visiting Dundee with family.

Traditional in style with art deco features, Whitehall Theatre is a bit further out of town than the Dundee Rep, about half a mile from the University of Dundee. There is a bar on-site or you can have a pre-drink at The Tinsmith pub, which is less than a 10-minute walk away.
