Shopping Centres
There are two main shopping centres in Chesterfield - The Pavements, which is an indoor centre in front of Market Square, and Vicar Lane Shopping Centre. As well as having plenty of high street names, The Pavements offers independent local retailers and lots of places to eat and drink.
Vicar Lane is a purpose-built open-air shopping centre with its own multi-storey car park.But if you're serious about your shopping, you must pay a visit to Chesterfield Market, one of the largest of its kind in England which dates back to at least 1165. Its charter was granted by King John in 1204, and it's now complemented by its historic Market Hall, originally built in 1857 and refurbished in 2013.
Slightly out of town but easily within reach of both of our Chesterfield hotels is Alma Leisure Park, which boasts national chains such as Cineworld, Chiquito’s and Harvester.
Getting Around
Chesterfield is very handily located for the motorway, just 10 minutes’ drive from junctions 29 and 29A of the M1 motorway. If you’re travelling by rail, Chesterfield Train Station can get you to London in just two hours, and there are also services to and from major cities such as Birmingham, Manchester, York, Newcastle and Bristol.
For visitors wanting to use Chesterfield as a base to explore the delights of the Peak District, you'll find extensive bus routes operating from Chesterfield Bus Station. Bus services run by Stagecoach also cover the surrounding area including Sheffield, Worksop, Nottingham and Derby.
