Chester Rows

Dating back to medieval times, Chester Rows is a series of four covered walkways littered with shops. One of the main tourist hotspots in the city, the Rows are worth checking out on a purely architectural basis. Built with impressive longevity, they are loaded with vintage flourishes, from the tiled floors to the stone-lined vaults. This is a Grade I-listed area and, since 1995, has been pedestrianised to give further protection.

Shopping-wise, a lot has changed since shoe mongers and ironworkers sold their goods 700 years ago. Now you’ll find a host of independent outlets spanning comic book retailers, high-end fashion stores, inviting cafés, bespoke suit shops, jewellery stores and much, much more. Less than two miles from our Chester Central North hotel, Chester Rows is a vital part of the city’s historical makeup, and according to historians, a truly unique set of buildings in Britain and beyond.
