Our Brentwood nightlife guide covers the best bars, pubs and clubs in town.
Nightlife in Brentwood
Pubs
The High Street in Brentwood is a great place to start bar-hopping. It’s here that you’ll find The Teriss Bar and the Slug and Lettuce. The Teriss Bar is a snug wine and cocktail bar with a large garden perfect for summer evenings while nationwide chain the Slug and Lettuce serves up a wide range of bar food, an impressive variety of drinks and cocktails and a smart interior.
If you’re staying at our Brentwood hotel, then you’ll find the CKN Bar & Kitchen just outside to the left. As well as an excellent range of gourmet burgers and spit-roasted chicken, the stylish wooden bar and restaurant serves a wide range of beer, wine and cocktails until 11pm every Friday and Saturday night.
Heading east into the next town of Shenfield you’ll find The Lot Bar & Restaurant. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks, the Meditteranean food is first-rate while their drinks menu spans dozens of makes of gin, cocktails, wine, beer and more.

Pubs
There are no shortage of quality pubs in Brentwood. One of our favourites is The Brewery Tap, a short walk up Kings Road from our Brentwood hotel, known for its homely wooden bar, cosy beer garden and wide range of beer. Alternatively, try The Spread Eagle on Queens Road, another traditional pub with a cosy interior, a variety of real ales, live music and good food.
One of the benefits of the Essex countryside is that there are plenty of rural pubs where you can sit back and relax. Heading west towards the M25 you’ll find The Nag’s Head and The Bull, both great choices. The Nag’s Head is a Victorian gastropub with a roaring fire in winter, large beer garden for summer and some of the best pub grub in the area. Just up the road from there is The Bull, which with its kids’ menu and playground, is perfect for families.
The Boars Head in Herongate is another excellent countryside pub. Located several miles south of Brentwood, it’s a historic watering hole dating back to the 18th century that’s been neatly modernised with excellent food, a large terrace and a wide range of drink options.
Clubs
Brentwood, for those with the finger not on the celebrity pulse, is where The Only Way Is Essex is filmed. This means fans can pretend to be one of the TOWIE cast by knocking back shots at Rumours or Sugar Hut, two of the town’s leading nightclubs.
Sugar Hut on the High Street is the largest and most bling, with a Baroque-cum-Asian interior that’s every bit as gaudy and glitzy as that sounds. It’s the sort of place where you come to be seen (Champagne gets delivered with sparklers and an entourage), with an extensive cocktail bar and main club room soundtracked by current pop and dance tracks.
Alternatively, try Rumours, an upmarket wine bar open late every Friday and Saturday night close to the train station and opposite our Brentwood hotel. With stylish decor, a wide range of wine, bubbles and cocktails and plenty of snug booths, it’s a great start or end to your Brentwood night out.
The latest addition to the bar and club scene is Bloc 40 on the High Street, a busy and buzzy cocktail bar and nightclub with VIP booths and DJs playing house and RnB.
