Coldplay, Elbow, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, alt-J, The Libertines, Wolf Alice, Muse – these are just some of the big names that have played at Esquires over the years. It’s fair to say then that Esquires is where it’s at when it comes to live music in Bedford.
A 250-capacity space, Esquires is one of the more stylish music venues in the UK, as it’s located in a converted 19th-century chapel. Pushing live music in Bedford for over 30 years, Esquires is open from Wednesday to Sunday and has several bars and rooms. These include the Main Stage, Esquires Bar and Holy Moly, a cool club space that’s rocking well into the early hours and also hosts acoustic sessions.

Head down on Wednesdays to catch their popular Jam Session, when local musicians are encouraged to get involved and get down. You’ll also be able to catch live music most weekends, culminating with the Sunday Sessions, a popular afternoon and early evening affair that features a wide range of bands and styles.
Fiercely alternative and independent, if you want to catch one of the UK’s up-and-coming acts or see reformed older bands and cool tribute acts in a classic live music setting, Esquires is just the ticket. There’s also a popular pool table in the venue, while the bar serves a decent range of well-priced drinks, including two real ales, a wide range of bottled beers and ciders, and spirits.
The club is just a few minutes’ east of the town centre on Bromham Road, with plenty of free parking available after 6pm on Greyfriars Road.
