Bars and Pubs
One of the closest pubs to our Basingstoke Town Centre hotel is The Bounty, an old-fashioned pub with plenty of cosy spaces inside and a large beer garden for the summer months. The food is a cut above your normal pub food, with their Sunday roast highly recommended.
If you’re after something a little more refined, head to Tonic Bar on nearby London Street. One of the busiest bars in town, they have resident DJs at the weekend pumping out a variety of crowd-friendly sounds with an impressive cocktail and shots menu.
Heading out of the town centre, The Bolton Arms next to the Old Basing Recreation Centre is a 15th-century pub with oak beams, vaulted ceilings and a large outdoor area including a patio, gazebo and beer garden. With equal emphasis on quality wines and real ales and a food menu that spans tapas plates, snacks and a la carte dishes, it’s well worth the short drive from our Basingstoke West hotel.
Nearby on Crown Lane you’ll find The Crown, an outstanding gastropub. The prices reflect the high-quality dishes, but with slow-cooked beef short rib, twice baked goats cheese souffle and seared scallops with seaweed butter, the inventive food is well worth it. Couple this with their impressive drinks menu and you can start to see what makes this place so popular with the locals.
Creating a neat little pub crawl is Barton’s Mill on the other side of the River Loddon. Housed in a converted mill, the pub beer garden overlooks its own lake complete with swans, ducks and even otters, making it an idyllic summer spot. Equally, head inside for the roaring fire, their tasty food – including a gluten-free range – and their extensive drinks menu spanning real ale, fine wines and a strong gin line-up.
Lastly, The Fox Inn is a traditional country pub and restaurant popular with local ramblers, dog-walkers, cyclists and families. Nestled in a beautiful part of the countryside with rolling fields and woodland, the pub is warm and homely especially in the winter when the roaring fire has been lit. And with regular live music sessions, quiz nights and a range of cask ales and quality wines, it’s a great all-rounder a short drive from our Basingstoke West hotel.
