Zip World
Zip World
If being face down flying 50 metres in the air across a disused quarry at world-record speeds of 100 mph via a 1.5-kilometre zip line sounds like your kinda fun, step this way to Zip World. Located in the Penrhyn Quarry near Bethesda, just a 10-minute drive from our Bangor hotel, the zip line is open to children over 10 accompanied by adults, with weight and height restrictions also in place. Once you’re loaded up, there are two zip wires to choose from, with up to four people able to ride at one time. And if you don’t fancy the adrenaline-fuelled trip, you can take a trip around the quarry – once the largest of its kind in the world – in the traditional red tipper trucks and take in the Snowdon mountain views from the on-site cafe and restaurant.
GreenWood
A firm family favourite, GreenWood is – somewhat amazingly – an eco-friendly theme park a short drive from our Caernarfon hotel. Located just a few miles from the town centre on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park, the activity centre features the world’s first people-powered roller coaster, Wales’ longest sledge run, tree-top towers, pedal-power go-karts, plus archery, stilt walking and den-building zones. Although best enjoyed during the summer – or at least when it’s not raining – it is open year-round thanks to the Enchanted WoodBarn, which houses an indoor soft play zone, restaurant and gift shop.
