Altrincham’s nightlife has transformed in recent years. You no longer have to make your way into Manchester if you want stylish cocktails and brilliant beers. The Market Quarter simply gets better and better in terms of bars, while you’ll find plenty of popular pubs all around Altrincham.

When it comes to nightlife, Goose Green is one of the best places to go out in Altrincham. Bars spill out into a huge courtyard. It’s here where you’ll find The Green Room, one of our favourite Altrincham entertainment venues. However, arguably the most popular of all is The Tavern on the Green. It’s a lively pub with a long list of beers and spirits to sample, not to mention a pukka menu of pies courtesy of Pieminister.
For those staying at our Altrincham hotel, a few minutes’ walk away from the town centre you’ll find The Old Packet House. It’s a brilliant old-fashioned pub, which dates back to the 1870s. It’s a CAMRA favourite, so you know the ales are well-kept and the selection will be strong. On top of that, the home-cooked food is delicious. We heartily recommend visiting on a Sunday for the roast.
If you’re looking for a pub near Dunham Massey Hall, another of our top activities in Altrincham, the Swan with Two Nicks is a gorgeous rustic pub with wood beams and character features, an excellent array of well-kept ales and a hearty menu of homemade pub grub. The Vine Inn is another excellent option nearby. The decor is a little antiquated, but we think it adds to its charm. Best of all, it’s a Sam Smith’s pub, so expect tasty bevs for bargain prices.
Last but by no means least, The Orange Tree on the Old Market Place is a popular pub with good beer and a bar full of staff that’s friendlier than a crowd of cockapoos. As it’s on the outskirts of the town centre, the prices are a tad cheaper. It attracts a mixed crowd of all ages and backgrounds, but everyone’s friendly and up for the craic; a proper pub.

Bars
Pi is one of the best places to grab a beer in Altrincham. It’s a little bar on Shaw’s Road, but it boasts one of the biggest selections of craft beers and real ales in town. There are easily a hundred different cans and bottles to choose from, and they hail from some of the most creative and exciting breweries on the planet. Prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is great and it has a good location opposite Altrincham Market, which heads up our list of activities in Altrincham. It’s worth hunting down even if you don’t like beer; they have spirits too.
If you want to sample some of the tastiest beers in the business inside one of the most stylish bars in Altrincham, make your way to Mort Subite. It’s a Belgian beer emporium with low lighting, antique wooden furniture and – if you dare – some seriously high ABV percentages. The team that runs the place are seriously knowledgeable and very welcoming. A word to the wise, it’s a cash-only bar. There are plenty of cash machines nearby, though.
Another excellent drinking den near Altrincham Market is Riddles. It’s a speakeasy with a team of seriously skilled mixologists who make some of the best cocktails to rival the bars of Spinningfields. Riddles was one of the first bars to pop up in the regenerated market area of Altrincham, and it continues to thrive as one of the best nightlife options in the area.
One last bar we need to tell you about in the Market Quarter is The Cellar. If you want wine or cocktails, it takes the biscuit as one of the best in Altrincham. Anyone who enjoys the bar life of West Didsbury will be glad to hear that The Cellar comes from the same people behind The Drawing Room. The atmosphere is a bit more casual, and there’s live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. It almost goes without saying, but the cocktails are exceptional, the bar snacks are tasty and the service is fantastic.
