Theatre
If you want to see a show during your stay, The Altrincham Garrick Playhouse is the 400-seat theatre of the Altrincham Garrick Society. It puts on a fantastic programme of a dozen productions per year. It also invites visiting societies to take to the stage of its marvellous playhouse on Barrington Road.
There’s always something happening at The Garrick, so check to see what’s on during your stay and be sure to book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. Ticket prices are reasonable, and best of all, our Altrincham hotel is less than a five-minute walk away on Manchester Road.
Alternatively, you can make your way to the Altrincham Little Theatre on Oxford Road. It dates back to the 19th century and has grown to put on five productions a year, filling its relatively small auditorium with amateur but excellent renditions of all kinds of plays, including noir classics such as ‘Dial M for Murder’.

Altrincham F.C.
Greater Manchester is home to two giants of the footballing world. And then there’s Altrincham F.C. The Robin’s may not shine a light even remotely close to United and City, but a trip to Moss Lane is still well worth your time. Tickets are reasonably priced, the atmosphere from the local support is always good and the quality of football is decent despite Altrincham FC not playing in the Football League.
The Robins have never played professional football, but they’ve earned a reputation as giant-killers of the FA Cup. On 17 separate occasions, they’ve knocked out Football League sides despite their semi-pro status. Matches tend to take place on Saturday and midweek; see if there’s a home game during your stay and make your way to Moss Lane for the best sporting entertainment Altrincham has to offer.
Music
In the evening, Goose Green is a hive of activity in the heart of Altrincham. It’s home to some wonderful bars and restaurants and a suntrap of a courtyard that fills up for the town’s summer festivals. It’s here where you’ll find one of Altrincham’s best live music venues, The Green Room. It’s an excellent bar with a top-class selection of drinks and a stellar reputation for putting on gigs on Friday and Saturday, as well as an open mike night on Thursday. It’s not the biggest venue in the world so it can get a little cramped, but it all adds to the atmosphere.
The Cinnamon Club is another local favourite in nearby Bowdon. It’s a gig-venue specialising in jazz and blues. Gigs take place every Friday and prove to be extremely popular. However, you can visit any day from Sunday through Thursday to take part in The Cinnamon Club’s excellent dance classes, which range from ballroom to salsa and jive.
