Spring is all about lighter days, new life and growth. Seeing the first daffodils, tulips and bluebells blooming is a sure sign that warmer weather is on the way, so it’s no surprise that many people seize the opportunity to head out of the house (between the rain showers!) to experience the new season for themselves.
The world’s most beautiful flower fields
Flower fields have seen a huge surge in popularity in recent years - largely due to their ‘Instagrammable’ nature. But let’s face it, spending an afternoon walking among flowers is hugely relaxing too! With flowers such as tulips blooming in the spring, and dahlias coming into flower towards the end of the summer, flower fans have plenty of time to take in the different floral displays around the world. Many people even travel specifically to see these scenic destinations in bloom!
Destinations such as the Keukenhof Gardens in the Netherlands welcome tens of thousands of people each day during tulip season, while small farms in countries such as the UK have started jumping on the flower field trend to provide a unique experience for visitors. But which flower fields around the world do we find the most beautiful? We conducted a little survey to find out!
Using eye-tracking software, we presented participants with images of flower fields from around the world and recorded which images their eyes lingered over the longest. The longer the look, the more appealing the picture!
Here, we’ll be revealing:
The world’s most beautiful flower fields
Europe stands proud as the continent with some of the most scenic flower fields in the world – four of the world’s top ten flower fields can be found here! However, it’s the Torres del Paine National Park Daisy Flower Field that takes the top spot as the world’s most beautiful flower field according to our study – participants’ eyes lingered over images of these blooms for an average of 3.89 seconds. The field is also the only South American destination to feature within the top 10.
Monet’s Garden at Giverny features as the second most beautiful field, and the highest ranked for Europe, with the average look at these stunning blooms lasting around 3.46 seconds - tied with the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival in the USA. Canada’s Butchart Gardens follows in fourth place, with Mainau Island in Germany completing the top five.
The Wild Lupins at Lake Tekapo are the only location in the Oceania region to feature in the top ten, coming in sixth with a 2.74 second fixation on average. Similarly, the Kaas Plateau in India puts Asia on the map in seventh place - though five fields from the continent make it into the top 20, with the Kawachi Wisteria Garden (12th), Dalat Flower Gardens (13th), Ashikaga Flower Park (15th) and Canola Flower Fields (18th) also proving popular with participants.
Great news for UK staycations – the Hitchin Lavender Farm in Hertfordshire also makes it into the top ten thanks to the sunflowers grown on site, which can be visited in the late summer.

Oceania's most beautiful flower fields
Oceania – Australia and New Zealand in particular – is a region known for its picturesque landscapes and diversity of wildlife, so it’s no surprise that there are some beautiful flowers in the area too.
The Wild Lupins of Lake Tekapo top the charts, with the flowers attracting many visitors to the Mackenzie Country area every year. The deep purple, pink, yellow and soft violet flowers stand proud against the backdrop of snow-covered peaks and bright blue lakes, creating a real treat for sightseers. The flowers bloom from mid-spring to early summer - but as this is the Southern hemisphere, those hoping for a glimpse of the flowers will have to book a trip in November to coincide with the season.

Methodology:
48 popular flower fields from around the globe were compiled using desk research.
To conduct the research, a sample of 30 people were shown a series of images of these flower fields. By using eye-tracking software, the average length of time people spent looking at different natural phenomenon (average fixation time) was recorded, with the longest average fixation time for each forming the rankings.
Data collected from the study was used to rank the flower fields from around the world, in order of the most eye-catching, and therefore most beautiful. All data correct as of March 2024.
