Parents will spend an average of £142 on a typical day out whether it’s to the beach or on attractions, so it’s no surprise that of those that took part in the study by OnePoll.com, 66% said that free days out near their UK destination is a decision maker when it comes to planning their staycation.

The scenic Lake District was voted the best destination when it came down to value for money, followed by Cornwall and Devon.

48% of those polled – who all have kids aged 0-18 – said affordable accommodation options in a destination are important when it comes to planning the perfect staycation.
