Family staycations are calling! Make this a summer to remember

Summer’s here, school’s out – and staycations are definitely in! Our recent research found that 53% of people across the nation now go on more staycations than holidays abroad – and who can blame them? With so many exciting things to do in the UK, you’ve got everything you need for unforgettable family breaks right on your doorstep – or maybe just a train ride away!

Roughly 2,000 parents took part in our summer survey, revealing the top 20 places to go for brilliant UK holidays. The research revealed that Cornwall has been named the best family staycation destination, closely followed by the Lake District, Devon and London. Historic cities like Edinburgh, York and Blackpool also appeared in the top 10.

Nearly half of those polled admit they won’t book holidays with the kids without at least some access to a pool or the sea, while nearly seven in 10 try to find educational places to visit that their children will enjoy.

Simon Ewins, Premier Inn Managing Director said:
"With so many amazing places to visit in the UK this summer, we're happy to give parents some inspiration ahead of the upcoming school holidays. Not only do staycations promote relaxation and rejuvenation, but they also empower us to support our local communities and appreciate the wonders that lie just beyond our own front doors. So, let's embark on a journey of exploration, right where we are, and unlock the glorious sights of our home sweet home.”

We know that money is always a big concern when it comes to summer holidays, too. Parents will spend an average of £142 on a typical day out whether it’s to the beach or on attractions, so it’s no surprise that of those that took part in the study by OnePoll.com, 66% said that free days out near their UK destination is a decision maker when it comes to planning their staycation.

The scenic Lake District was voted the best destination when it came down to value for money, followed by Cornwall and Devon.

48% of those polled – who all have kids aged 0-18 – said affordable accommodation options in a destination are important when it comes to planning the perfect staycation. Thanks to our family friendly rooms, comfy beds and free Wi-Fi, our great-value Premier Inn hotels have got you covered there!

Simon Ewins added:
“As we embrace the essence of home and the beauty it holds, we proudly advocate for the magic of staycations. In a world that moves at lightning speed, staycations offer a serene escape right on our doorstep, allowing us to rediscover the treasures within our own backyard. It's a chance to rekindle our connection with loved ones, savour precious moments together, and create lasting memories in the comfort of familiar surroundings.”
