Great news – you don’t need to go abroad to enjoy a fun family holiday or romantic weekend this year! UK staycations are on the rise and, to inspire people across the nation to get out and explore what’s right on their doorstep, we’ve compiled a brand-new list of what we like to call Destination Doubles.
We’re seeing double! Save money with UK staycations and explore the best local landmarks
Essentially, it’s a list of top UK attractions with ‘twin’ landmarks abroad which you can visit this year for a fraction of the cost. If you’re trying to save a bit of money this year, chances are there’s a UK counterpart waiting to be explored – and a Premier Inn nearby to help make the most of your stay!
So, combining our knowledge of the UK’s best tourist spots with some of our top hotel locations, we came up with a list of some sightseeing alternatives that you’ll find a little closer to home. Of course, our list might just a bit of fun, but it’s also a great starting point for staycation ideas – with careful planning and a bit of flexibility, you could save an impressive amount of money on your 2023 holidays.
For example, instead of travelling to Mont St Michel in France, why not discover St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall? This historic castle is an incredible landmark, and choosing to visit this UK site instead of its French counterpart on the same dates could save you hundreds of pounds. Similarly, taking a trip to the lavender fields in Surrey over the violet fields in Provence could save you over £1000!*
Mont St Michel v St Michael’s Mount
Fields in Provence, France v lavender in Surrey
Pyramids of Giza v Prince Albert Cairn
Other examples include visiting the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle instead of the huge steel arches of Sydney Harbour – both were designed by the same architects, which explains their striking resemblance. Instead of travelling to the Eiffel Tower, you could take the kids away to one of our Blackpool hotels near the beloved Blackpool Tower and catch a show in the famous Tower Ballroom! Plus, those itching to visit the Great Pyramids of Giza might consider seeing hidden UK gems like the Prince Albert Cairn at Balmoral – it might not be able to offer the same Egyptian heat, but this sculpture will still leave you awestruck.
Our Managing Director Simon Ewins said:
“You really don’t need to leave the UK to see some of the best views in the world, and with our list of Destinations Doubles, you can enjoy popular UK landmarks that share an amazing likeness to famous places overseas. Our list aims to inspire people to try something or somewhere different and with Premier Inn hotels close to all of these amazing spots, guests can rest easy and enjoy a well-earned break whilst taking in some amazing sights that will have you thinking you’re seeing double!”
