What else should I see in Birmingham?

As well as the Commonwealth Games, there’s plenty of other things to see and do in the UK’s second largest city. During your stay, make sure to take a trip to some of our favourite spots like Villa Park Stadium, home of Aston Villa F.C. and a must-see for footie fans, the Birmingham NEC for other amazing events and exhibitions, the Sarehole Mill Museum of Lord of the Rings fame and last but definitely not least, Cannon Hill Park, 250-acres of scenic parkland, perfect for relaxing and unwinding after an afternoon watching the Commonwealth Games.

We have Premier Inn hotels close to all the best things to see in Birmingham. If you’re sightseeing in Birmingham City Centre, our Premier Inn Birmingham City Centre New Street Station, Birmingham City Centre Bridge Street and Birmingham City Centre Waterloo Street hotels are all just under two miles away.

Finally, we wouldn’t be doing Birmingham justice unless we mentioned its amazing canals. In fact, Birmingham has more canals than Venice! They wind through the city across scenic harbours, parks and passageways, and some are much easier to miss than others. Find them all with our best Premier Inn hotels for exploring Birmingham’s canals, like our Premier Inn Birmingham City Aston hotel for Grand Union Canal, our Premier Inn West Bromwich Town Centre (New Square) hotel for Birmingham Canal and our Premier Inn Stourbridge Town Centre hotel for Stourbridge Canal. Those are just three of the biggest, there are so many other canals to discover in Birmingham and our Premier Inn Birmingham hotels make exploring all of them so much easier.

Are there any events I can watch for free at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham?

Most of the games will be in venues where you need a ticket to watch. But the marathons and some of the outdoor cycling events will have parts of the games where anyone can watch for free.

There are four marathon races at the Commonwealth Games 2022, all on Saturday 30th July. You’ll need a ticket to watch at the start and end of the games, but the route crosses famous landmarks in Birmingham like Centenary Square, the Jewellery Quarter, St Paul’s Square and St Phillips’s Cathedral. One of our closest hotels to most of the best free points to watch the marathon is our Premier Inn Birmingham City Centre Bridge Street hotel.

The cycling road race event starts and end in Warwick. Again, while you may need to buy tickets to watch the race from the beginning and end, you can cheer for free from the side-lines throughout the race. Our Premier Inn Warwick hotel is in one of the best spots to get to key points along the route.
