Near-identical landmarks in the UK

With travelling abroad looking less and less likely this year, more of us than ever are planning a staycation right here in the UK. We’ve come up with a unique idea for people missing international travel to ‘see’ some of the world’s most famous landmarks without even setting foot outside the UK.

We’ve ‘twinned’ some of the world’s most popular tourist landmarks with places in Britain that look almost identical.

So, even though there’s no going abroad this summer, you can rest easy because you’ll still be able to see amazing landmarks and locations right here in the UK.

To create our list, we combined our extensive knowledge of Britain’s best tourist spots with some of our top hotel locations.

We then created a long list of locations twinned based on their style as well as historic links. For example, the huge steel arches of Sydney Harbour have a striking resemblance to the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle, as both were designed by the same architects. Most people would do a double take when they see Blackpool Tower next to the Eiffel Tower. And if you were planning on visiting Salzburg in Austria to see some of its world-renowned UNESCO heritage sites, try a visit to the equally outstanding UNESCO sites and beauty of Edinburgh’s old town instead.

A spokesperson for Visit Blackpool commented:
“Blackpool Tower might have been inspired by its Paris equivalent, but it has never ever been a pale imitation! The structure itself is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the UK and is just one of a huge range of family attractions in Blackpool and provides yet another compelling reason for holidaymakers to come back and enjoy a great British staycation this summer."

Our list of twin locations means you can take advantage of the great value rooms right now, with thousands of rooms across towns and cities in the UK from as little as £29 and under*. We have rooms available across the UK, so no matter when and where you want to go, you can enjoy a UK summer staycation well into September and beyond.

Our managing director Simon Ewins said:

“With the UK staycation set to be even more popular this year, our list of ‘twin’ locations will give guests lots of inspiration of new places to visit. Having over 800 hotels across the UK we are ideally placed to offer some great advice and show that you really don’t need to leave the UK to see some of the best views in the world."

“We are looking forward to welcoming guests over the coming months as they explore some of the best spots the UK has to offer, plus with an enhanced cleaning regime and some great deals available, guests can rest easy that they book and stay safely with us. We also wanted to showcase the incredible choices right on our doorstep - now is a great time to try something or somewhere different and get out and explore the best of what our UK cities and towns have to offer.”
