Get ready for UK staycations this summer and bag yourself a new set of wheels with our exciting suitcase competition

It’s finally time to start thinking about UK short breaks and holidays abroad again, and to celebrate, we’re giving away 20 souped-up suitcases this summer.

After an unprecedented 18 months, it’s not surprising that a poll of 2,000 people in the UK* found that only a third of adults have had a chance to use their suitcase in the past two years, while one in 10 haven’t been able to use theirs in over five years, meaning many will be desperate for an upgrade this summer.

With restrictions coming to an end and summer holidays finally returning, we thought it was time to give the old, forgotten suitcase some much needed TLC. That’s why we launched Wheelies: The Suitcase Mechanics to provide holidaymakers with a brand-new set of wheels so that they can travel in style.

Wheelies have been hard at work creating a collection of uniquely designed luggage, perfect for beach trips, hiking holidays and everything in between. Wheelies have crafted a variety of innovative cases to meet all travel needs on UK holidays this summer.

Cases include original designs such as the Champagne Super-Roller, a refrigerated bag that can fit full-size bottles of bubbly, the Boom-Bag, a hybrid creation of an audio speaker and suitcase and classics such as the Scoot-Case, a ridable bag that lets you cruise through your journey.

We’ve also created our Packing Personality Quiz, a fun series of questions designed to reveal your packing style. Whether you are an over-packer or a pro-packer, we’ve got you covered so that you can pack with confidence this summer.

A new study we commissioned recently* revealed that almost seven in 10 (67%) people agree that a suitcase is the most important item needed for UK short breaks, along with all the classics such as sun cream, after sun and toothpaste (76%).

But our long-neglected luggage isn’t as ready as we are for UK getaways after gathering dust for so long. Our research found that only a third of people (33%) have used their suitcase in the past two years, while one in 10 (11%) admitting to not opening their suitcase at all for the last five years. A further 12% admitted to using an old suitcase with faulty wheels in the past when travelling, and some couldn’t even remember the colour of their current suitcase where they haven’t seen it in so long.

It was clear that our number one travel essential was long overdue an MOT, but Wheelies didn’t just give the trusty suitcase a service – they gave it an upgrade! The Suitcase Mechanics showcased a range of innovative new designs, developed with the needs of all kinds of travellers – from parents-on-the-go to tech fanatics – in mind, following the results of the survey.

Our research found that 40% of UK adults’ ideal suitcase would be suitable for use on all terrains, while almost a fifth (17%) would love a case that allowed them to mount their iPad for entertainment while travelling. Another fifth (21%) said a robotic suitcase that they didn’t have to pull along would be the perfect travel companion.
