Visit the twins of the world’s best landmarks without leaving the UK

Travelling abroad is much more difficult this year, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on seeing stunning sights from around the world – the near-identical twins of many famous landmarks are right here in the UK.

With so many holidays abroad on hold, more people than ever are spending their summer holidays in the UK. We’ve come up with a unique way for those missing adventures abroad to ‘see’ their favourite landmarks without needing to leave the country, by visiting attractions in the UK that are almost identical.

We’ve combined our extensive knowledge of Britain’s best tourist spots with the expertise of the veteran traveler and Guinness World Record holder, Graham Hughes, to create a list of twinned locations to visit in the UK.  Whether you were planning to visit the Great Wall of China or swim through Indonesian waterfalls, our list has great doppelganger destinations to help make your summer just as memorable this year.

For example, the Penshaw Monument in Sunderland, while perhaps less well known to some, shares an almost exact likeness to the Greek Temple of Hephaestus in Athens. Or for those that like to explore underwater, coral reefs in Cornwall rival the Great Barrier Reef in Australia for its beauty and wildlife.

On discovering amazing landmarks in the UK, Graham said: “I am lucky enough to have seen a lot of the world and to have experienced it in a unique way. Seeing so many incredible things around the globe made me seriously appreciate the breathtaking sights that we have available right here on our doorsteps. From waterfall walks in Wales to historical landmarks like Hadrian’s Wall, we don't have to travel far to enjoy some of the best sights the world has to offer.”

The list of twin locations means you can take advantage of many of our great value rooms from as little as £29. We have rooms across the country, so no matter when and where you want to go or what you want to see, you can look forward to seeing the best sights with us all summer and beyond.

Premier Inn’s Managing Director, Simon Ewins said: “We know many of our guests love to explore the UK and our list of ‘twin’ locations will give guests lots of inspiration of new places to visit. Having over 800 hotels across the UK we are ideally placed to offer some great advice and show that you really don’t need to leave the UK to see some of the best views in the world.

“Plus, with an enhanced cleaning regime and some great deals available, guests can book and stay safely with confidence. We’re looking forward to welcoming guests over the coming months as they explore some of the best spots the UK has to offer. With so many incredible choices right on our doorstep, the only question for those looking for a great staycation this summer and beyond, is what will you do?”

We recently announced our rigorous new CleanProtect hotel hygiene promise to help our guests book with confidence. We’ve always operated to the highest hygiene standards from check-in to check-out, CleanProtect is an addition to our already high standards in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Developed with suppliers including global cleaning and hygiene product supplier Diversey, the new CleanProtect procedures, which include acrylic screens at check-in, floor markings, automatically-dispensed hand sanitiser in public areas and new key-return boxes, are in line with both World Health Organisation and the European Centre for Disease Control recommendations, as well as UK government guidance.
