What to do in Ashton under Lyne

Ashton-under-Lyne still bears the hallmarks of its Victorian heyday. The Portland Basin warehouse, a former meeting place of several canalways, now provides the venue for an impressive museum. Ashton-under-Lyne's town hall, which dates to 1840 and features a distinctive classical look, is a Grade II listed building.

The town also has several impressive public parks, which themselves include a boating lake and a conservatory. Memorial Gardens, a park in the city, commemorates the sacrifice of soldiers from Ashton under Lyne in World War I and II.
