One of the 40 ‘Gem Towns in England’, Whitehaven is a pretty Georgian town that has a regenerated harbour and many listed buildings. It’s also the starting point of the popular 140-mile C2C Cycle Route, which passes through the Lake District to the remote North Pennines, before reaching the north east coast.
