At Premier Inn, part of the Whitbread family, we care about our teams, our communities and our planet. That’s why being a Force for Good is at the heart of everything we do, from donating surplus food to communities and working on reaching net zero carbon to supporting the life-changing work of Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
As the UK’s largest hotel chain, we’re proud to be setting industry-leading goals for supporting people, the planet and local communities, so you can rest easy knowing we’re doing our bit for the world we live in. You can read more about our work in our latest ESG report.
We're a Force for Good
Opportunity
We want our hotels and restaurants to be places our teams are proud to work in, while always providing the best possible experience for our guests. Our hotels and restaurants are accessible and inclusive – no matter who you are, we believe in building on our team’s potential and making sure our team members get the most from their time with us.
We’re for everyone
We know that diverse teams make winning teams. We’re committed to actively breaking down barriers to entry so that we can be an inclusive and representative employer. And once our team members are part of the Premier Inn family, we’re committed to ensuring they feel represented and respected, regardless of how they identify.
Whether you're working with us or visiting our hotels and restaurants, our sites are the most welcoming places to be thanks to our friendly staff and accessible buildings. We pride ourselves on making sure that every single guest we serve or person we work with feels welcome.
We invest in people
With leading training and development programmes, we're a place where you can really build your career. We support our team members to develop their careers through a range of training opportunities, including our leading apprenticeship programmes, regardless of age or ability. We care about helping our team members be the best they can be through supporting cross functional and meaningful career development.
Team member wellbeing
We want to ensure that everyone we work with feels welcome at Whitbread. By listening to our team members, we’re able to effectively support their physical and mental wellbeing.
Community
We have 800+ hotels across the UK and each one is part of a community. We pride ourselves on playing an active role in these communities through charity fundraising, volunteering or providing work for local people.
Part of the community
Every time a new hotel or restaurant opens, we’re joining a new community. At our new sites, we support and sponsor each team member to volunteer three hours for a local cause that both they and local residents are passionate about. This can be anything from planting trees to redecorating community centres or donating to food banks. It works for everyone – we learn more about the communities we’re part of, and the community gets to see more of who we really are.
Supporting GOSH Charity
We’ve been proudly supporting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH Charity) since 2012, hosting everything from bed-ins to fun runs and everything in between to help raise money for seriously ill children from across the UK.
Over the next five years, we’ve pledged £20 million towards the GOSH Charity Build it. Beat it. appeal, which is all in aid of building a world-leading Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital to help transform children’s cancer care and save more lives.
Caring about our customers
We’re proud to serve high quality, great-tasting food and drink in our restaurants. That’s why we’re committed to improving the nutritional value of our menu by continuing to reduce sugar, salt and calories, and we’ll continue to develop inclusive menus for customers with a range of dietary needs. We’ll do this responsibly and transparently while always maintaining the same great taste, quality and value for money our guests know and love. We’re also striving to be a leader in our sector for delicious, healthy children’s food.
Responsibility
We recognise the responsibility we have to safeguard the environments and communities in which operate, which is why we have industry leading targets across our programme to reduce our impact on the environment and respect the human rights of workers across our value chain.
Responsible sourcing
Understanding where our products and services come from is necessary to ensure we are sourcing sustainably and respecting human rights throughout our supply chain. We’re incredibly proud of our strong supplier relationships underpinned by our clear and fair terms and conditions.
Reducing our environmental impact
Understanding our impact on the environment is critical - we recognise our responsibility to take action and drive change. That’s why we’ve committed to being net zero for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2050, to reduce water use by 20% per hotel guest by 2030 and to cut food waste in half by 2030.
Being a responsible business
At Whitbread PLC, we’re passionate about using our scale and size to make a positive difference to people’s lives, our communities and the world in which we operate. We’re committed to communicating transparently about our performance as a business, setting standards to ensure our suppliers operate responsibly and ensuring that the people who work with us are always treated fairly and with respect.

First all-electric Premier Inn hotel powered entirely by renewables opens in Swindon
Our new hotel has been designed to operate without a connection to a mains gas supply, instead powered entirely by renewable electricity. From the design and operation of our Swindon Town Centre hotel, we’ll learn even more about retrofitting our estate to reduce emissions, with our goal being to remove mains gas connections from our hotels by 2040.
Hidden Disabilities Sunflower
As the UK’s biggest hospitality company welcoming millions of guests into our hotels and restaurants throughout the year, we recognise that it’s not always easy for people – including our team members – to identify or understand the daily barriers faced by people living with an invisible disability. That’s why this year, to mark Purple Tuesday, we’ve decided to adopt the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower as part of our Force for Good programme!

FAQs
Are Premier Inn hotels powered by renewable energy?
Our 800+ UK hotels are powered by Scottish Power or Power NI who provide us with 100% renewable electricity as part of their contract, with only 19 of our hotels including those in the Isle of Man and Jersey being excluded. This means that a total of 98% of hotels are powered by renewable energy.
