Newport/Telford hotel

The location was OK with parking available at the hotel. The Receptionist wasn’t there upon our arrival (9pm) and so we rang the bell as it instructed, waited some time then a male member of staff appeared with no shoes on. He checked us in whilst we could hear loud footsteps coming from above which he said he “would deal with”. The room was an older style Premier Inn layout with the light coloured wood & a small older TV right off to the side so that not all of us were able to view it at the same time. The room was dirty, the towels had a black hair on them (none of us have black hair) the shower gel has almost completely run out. The hotel clearly needs some modernisation. We could hear children crying, adults talking, people walking around. The breakfast was appalling, after 40 minutes and repeatedly requested cooked food we were still waiting. There was bread to toast but no butter, there was cereal but no milk, the fruit look like it had seen better days. When I asked the staff if they had information on carbohydrate values of the food in order to assist me with calculating insulin for type 1 diabetes, I was told they did not have this but that there was calories on the menu. (Not the same thing & not helpful). When requesting the use of a toilet whilst we’ve are in our 40+ mins wait for breakfast, we were told that there wasn’t a toilet near to the restaurant & that we would have to go back into our room. What if we had already checked out and were grabbing breakfast before leaving? We’ve stayed in many Premier Inns as a family of 4 over the years & we will not be returning here.

Premier Inn is a standard, basic hotel. However, as it is a hotel, I expected the room to be cleaned during my two-day stay. The bed hadn’t been made, the bathroom hadn’t been tidied, the bin hadn’t been emptied and the water glasses hadn’t been replaced. The room was spacious and the furniture, whilst not modern, was acceptable. The television, lights and Wi-Fi all worked without any problems. The bathroom floor needs changning and the corners need repairing. The shower head should be replaced with a more modern option, rather than a fixed one, to prevent water from spilling out of the bath.

Newport Premier Inn itself was fine. Clean room and bathroom, useful air conditioning, handy free parking and the staff were friendly and generally helpful. BUT, for the second time now, we arrived at a Premier Inn only to be told that no food was available as the Beefeater next door was closed. We had received an email from Premier Inn shortly before our stay, but no mention was made of any closure. As we aren't familiar with the area we were looking forward to a relaxing meal just a few steps away. We certainly didn't want to be searching for a restaurant elsewhere. I do think guests should be informed of these closures before they arrive.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, we spoke to Kelly and Georgi and they couldn't have been more friendly and made sure that our stay was a good one

Charing 15 GBP for checking in 35 mins earlier is a rip off and a bad start. Bathroom could be cleaner especially the sink - was full of hair. The receptionist lady was moody and not very welcoming. The room is basic but bed was comfy. Wifi is weak but usable. If you have no other options it's OK.
